How we stuffed the networks with Operación Triunfo

Conversation with Percebes y Grelos and Belena Gaynor.

The latest return of Operación Triunfo swept everything as a media hurricane and social phenomenon, surpassing the success of the first edition in 2001. And this is largely due to the fact that it was much more than a simple television program. An authentic transmedia format where the Youtube broadcast of what happened at the Academy, and the management of the conversation on social networks, which led it to be TT every broadcasting day, give us many lessons on how to involve the young audiences in an entertainment format for the 21st century.

Belena Gaynor is her name in the digital world, although her mother still calls her Belen when the trash has to be taken out. She studied Advertising and Public Relations, as well as some other courses, but nothing has taught her as much as Operación Triunfo. She was 9 when the first edition was aired, and from then she could not stop. So much so that with great enthusiasm, work and asking for it through her Youtube videos (where he publishes content since 2011 and counts almost 60,000 followers), she managed to be part of the digital team of Operación Triunfo 2017. And yes, dreams come true. So as vital advice she only tells us: Walk, take one step forward and breathe.

Carolina Iglesias is from A Coruña but she lives in Madrid, where she works as a scriptwriter and comedian, and runs the Youtube channel Percebes y Grelos, with 50,000 subscribers. Fan of the tacky culture, she likes cheesy things, talking about scatology, Raphael, and the 90s TV shows. Even though she was born in the mid-90s. With her characteristic irreverent tone, with which she collaborates with Los 40 principales and VodafoneYu, she is one of the newest and most promising comedians on the Spanish scene. In recent times she has collaborated in the Operación Triunfo chat channel, in spaces like Mediaset’s Yasss, and she even hosts her own live show, “Que vuelva Fotolog”, which she shares with Esty Quesada “Soy una pringada”.
